Concrete coatings do more than just enhance the aesthetic appeal of a concrete surface - they provide fantastic protection against wear and deterioration. It's often assumed that, due to its durability, concrete is an indestructible material.
If you leave concrete untreated and uncoated, it will wear down over time and perhaps even need resurfacing in the future. At Concrete Colour Solutions, we recommend applying concrete coatings to any outdoor areas experiencing high foot or vehicle traffic.
These coatings will give your surfaces the protection they need to hold up against activity and the elements, and will cut down on the frequency of maintenance or the need for extensive and costly repairs. Our popular acrylic-based coatings are used on driveways, pathways, patio spaces, and pool areas, and they offer superior weather protection alongside improved aesthetic appeal.
Solvent-based acrylic concrete sealers are dry to the touch within an hour and usually take between 36 and 48 hours to cure. This property makes them good candidates for projects you want to complete quickly. Two coats are usually sufficient.
Acrylic is an extremely tough plastic capable of withstanding significant wear and tear.
Sealers
of this kind typically last one to three years before requiring reapplication.
While acrylic sealers are inexpensive and offer significant weather protection, they can become slippery when wet. Therefore, homeowners with sloping driveways or in areas prone to regular, heavy rain, may wish to select a different sealer type.
The water-based acrylic coating solutions we have on offer are durable, low-maintenance solutions offering advanced flexibility and hardness.
Water-based acrylic coatings are excellent for customers looking to get a higher-performance sealer with low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. They offer all of the benefits of regular solvent-based acrylic but without the same odour and clean-up issues.
Products contain micronised acrylic – tiny acrylic particles less than a millimetre in diameter. During application, these enter the porous surface of the substrate and bind with the material, producing a hardened seal. During drying, particles crosslink with each other, yielding a beautiful, easy-to-clean and stain-resistant finish.
If you'd like interior coating inside your garage, or on your industrial project, you might choose one of our polyurethane sealers, which provide a superior gloss and bond you're bound to love and offer more durability than an acrylic coat.
Polyurethane coatings are made from liquid plastics that dry to form a protective film over the underlying substrate. The material is particularly suited to commercial and industrial applications because of its ability to resist chemicals, heat and water. Strongly-bonded polymers provide exceptional protective properties that enhance the longevity and usability of the product. Today, a range of industries use the coating, including car manufacturing, offshore and onshore gas and oil producers, shipping, and construction.
Polyurethane is also popular for its looks. When applied successfully, the material yields a glossy finish that looks great in practically any utilitarian setting.
If you want to create a more decorative finish on your surface, epoxy coatings result in a durable bond and a high gloss. They're great for flake flooring, garage floor coating, or for use in a commercial space.
Epoxy coatings are among the most durable on the market. Depending on the application, they may last for 10 to 20 years on concrete, providing superior protection.
Part of epoxy’s protective capacities relates to its waterproofing abilities. Mixing the epoxide polymer with a polyamine catalyst makes it virtually impossible for water to penetrate and cause damage. Polymers inside the material crosslink with the hardener, creating a resin. Corrosion does not occur on adequately protected metal.
Manufacturers derive most epoxy ingredients from petroleum, though there are some plant-derived sources, too from glycerol. Reacting epichlorohydrin, bisphenol-A and other chemicals together yield a range of suitable resins.
Give your concrete, bricks, and stone surface great protection with a penetrating coating. It will deeply infiltrate the surface and protect against water, oil, and stains without compromising the appearance of your surface.
Homeowners and commercial organisations use penetrating coating when they want to protect their property from grime and moisture. The substance gets into all the small cracks and crevices in the underlying material and then cures inside, sealing them to prevent damage.
Critically, penetrating coatings do not change surface texture or traction. Chemicals work from within the material, preventing issues such as increased slippiness.
Most penetrating sealers are made of silicates, siloxane, or silane. These substances fill all the material’s pores and make it hydrophobic: water-repellent.
Densifiers are perfect for polished or steel trowel concrete flooring and will enhance the dust/water resistance and durability of a surface.
Densifiers work by penetrating the underlying material and fusing with sand particles and other inert materials to form chemical bonds. By physically pulling loose bits of material together, densifiers improve the material’s weather and abrasion resistance significantly.
Because of this, densifiers are not the same as sealants. The former penetrates the material and provides strength from within while the latter forms a film on the surface. Hence, sealants require periodic replacement, but densifiers do not.
Some densifiers can darken concrete. However, there are products which can keep it looking bright and white.
Concrete densifiers get to work quickly. Silicate varieties usually take around 30 minutes to completely apply. We continue applying densifiers to your surfaces until they will not take any more.
